What do you understand by software? Name various categories of them, giving at least one example for each.

What do you understand by software? Name various categories of them, giving at least one example for each.

Software

Software is a group programs that makes a system to provide a desire output. Basically the software also combination of program, logic, functions, header files, system file package, database, variables and output results.

There are three categories of the software following below.

1. System software or Operating system

2. Application Software

3. Utility software

this image shows the software basically three types are utility software, system software and application software.


1. System software or operating system

System software makes interfaces between hardware and user where user uses the hardware easily and can operates properly. It provides an environment to run the application software and their development.

Example: Windows operating system, MAC OS, IOS, Android, Symbian etc.

2. Application software

Application software is software that makes for specific task and provides the desire output. It runs in operating system.

Example: Video player, MS office, MS paint etc.

3. Utility software

Utility software is work behind the operating system that controls the security, Manage firewall. This type of software is care about your computer.

Example: Back-up software, disk tool, Anti-virus software.


Can an operating system provide an environment for application software?


Yes, it is true that the Operating system provides an environment to the application software to install and run into their given environment for application software.

The application software provides a specific problem of solution that the user can perform some step on the application software and get the output as a solution from the application software.

The operating system also provides a supporting environment of saving the file of application as a product to the storage device to use it to store at specific memory address.

The file has also an extension given by the application software to access only from the application, not the operating system able to open or run the file.

For example:- a file has a 'filename.ghj' from the application software that provides the extension of (.ghj) and the filename is a name of file that given by the end user on the application software to find and retrieve the file from the storage device on the computer.
