What is an operating system? What are the three types of user interface?

"An operating system is a system software to interface between user and hardware and interaction to each other."

User interface is a type of interface where user how to use the electronic machine and operate the machine with the instructions which is given by the user and the machine receives the instructions and follow the instruction and process to give to the user a desirable output.

There are the three types of user interface following below:

1. Command line Interface (CLI)

2. Batch Command Interface (BCI)

3. Graphical User Interface (GUI)

Command Line Interface

1. Command line interface is a type of interface that operates by the textual instructions typed by the users.

2. It runs in a command prompt platform.

3. It is a platform that operates the operating system of Disk.

4. It is also called MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System).

5. In MS-DOS commands are typed at an entry point identified by a blinking cursor.

6. Some basic commands are used for basic operations such as

DIR to display any drives of the folder and files.

C:\> DIR    Enter press

MD to make a directory in any drives (folder).

C:\> MD    Directory name     enter press

RD To remove directory that is created previously.

And so many commands are uses in the command prompt platform.

What do you mean by CLI Command Line Interface?

CLI is a command line interface that takes commands from keyboard input devices and processes these commands to perform a task such as printing the line on the page, making a folder, creating file or directory, dividing your storage partition etc. so much work you can do by using keyboard to type commands on the computer.

It displays the commands on the computer monitor and you can operate the hardware by using the command line interface [CLI] operating system.

By using this CLI operating system you use and operate the printer, speaker, monitor which displays your command line interface, it also visualizes your hardware accessing and much more you can do such as connecting the system through apply command to enter internet protocol address [IP address].

 

What are the limitations of the command line interface [ CLI ] operating system?

Limitation of command line interface what we can do with CLI operating system:

There are so many work and tasks you can do with command line interface:

You can print text files by applying commands.

You can access your hardware details.

You can operate your hardware parts.

You can create a graphics line and shapes using the program execution after creating a program.

You can operate the CLI operating system by using a keyboard input device.

You can make a directory in the CLI by using the command “make dir” by md <dir name> enter.

You can open files.

You can open the directory which you had created. The directory means the “folder” in the form GUI [Graphical User Interface].

You can create an object oriented database through a command line in a relational.

You can access web pages but in the text form. 

By using a web page you can share text information with wired networking.

 

Limitation of Command line interface what you can do not with CLI operating system:

There are some points to remember what you can not do with CLI [Command Line Interface] operating system:

You cannot use any pointing device.

You cannot use a mouse input device.

You cannot use a joystick input device.

You cannot use a light pen input device.

You cannot use a graphical user interface but you can create computer graphics on the monitor.

You cannot use images in the CLI operating system.

You cannot open images, if you can then the CLI does not detect any type GUI permission or any type of components which is responsible to display the image.

You cannot open video data in the CLI operating system.

You cannot use video data in the CLI operating system.

You cannot use a web camera in the CLI operating system.

You cannot see an object oriented database in the graphical form.

Batch Command Interface

1. Batch file are ASCII text files that store a series of commands which are later automatically executed line by line when you run the file.

2. It is written in the text editor and saves in the extension of (“.bat”).

3. The batch file command enable batch files to make choices, perform repetitive tasks, call subroutines and operate in various ways on optional parameters.

4. The syntax of the batch files programing “ECHO on/off”

@Echo off

Echo “enter your text”

Pause

For example

@Echo off

Echo hello from computers achievers

Pause

5. Then save in the text editor and in the extension of (“File name.bat”).

6. Now where you save your file find It and run the file which is extension of “.bat”.

7. Then It will displays “hello from computers achievers”.

Graphical User Interface

1. The GUI is a type of interface that interact with users and machine using operating system.

2. It is very easy to use in your daily life as your smart phone.

3. In the GUI user can experience mouse based operating system or pointer device based operating system and menu system based which are characterized by a desktop metaphor.

4. It provides images, icons, task bar start button, clicking, to see files and folders, forms and so many facilities to the user.

Can a mouse input device be better than a keyboard input device to use the GUI of an operating system?

Yes, it is definitely true that the mouse input device is used to provide the tool pointer which is mostly controlled by the mouse input device and the user can easily perform with the pointer tool of the operating system and operate the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of the operating system on the computer.
The mouse is used to perform clicking to open a file or folder or drive to enter into it to see the database files stored and pasted into it.

The run program file is also clicked to open from the mouse input device to perform an operation to open or run on the operating system environment on the computer.
The mouse can also drag user design applications and design better than the keyboard input device.
The mouse input device performs an art work on the image creative application to draw the art on the image file better than the keyboard input device.
