How are input devices works ?
Data and instructions are entered into a computer through input devices. An input device first converts desired input data and instructions into a suitable binary form of 0 & 1 and then stores it into the cache memory for waiting mostly then it will ready to execute to the CPU Central Processing Unit.
The commonly used input device is the keyboard. A number of other input devices have been developed that do not require typing. These are :-
a) Mouse
b) Joystick
c) Track ball
d) Light pen
e) Graphic tablet
f) Touch Screen
The above listed devices permit the user to select an image on the computer screen by pointing to it. Therefore, these devices are also called Pointing Devices.
Mouse input device
It is used to input instructions to the CPU for processing and aspects output from the monitor or according to any type of command.
When we click the left button, the mouse input device generates a digital signal and it sends it to the port of the CPU.
The CPU receives a digital signal from the port which comes from the mouse input device which is in the form of 0&1 known as Binary number form.
Mouse uses to operate any type of operating system which is in the GUI form where GUI stands for Graphical User Interface form of an operating system.
Without GUI Graphical User Interface form you cannot be able to use a mouse input device on the computer system.
Joystick input device
Joystick is used to play games.
Joystick devices are also mechanical devices such as to change gears, control direction of an air jet etc.
Mostly the joystick used in the racing games.
Joysticks have so many keys or buttons that appear on the stick of the joystick device.
Joystick device is also used in game controllers as mini joysticks in a pair.
The stick of the joystick moves generally four directions such as left right forward and backward.
Joystick device has a stand to provide stability.
Most of the joystick devices are wired.
In the latest products of joystick devices in the market available are Bluetooth joystick devices which are known as wireless joystick devices.

A microphone are used for the smart phone as a input devices. In applications, Where computers with vision are required, namely robots and computer based security system, computer use optical and semiconductor devices that are sensitive to light. Such input devices produce digital signals corresponding to the images.
Can a mouse input device operate the GUI of an OS?
The mouse input device provides a feature of tracking the pointer tool available on the computer that provides a function to operate the GUI means Graphical User Interface of the Operating System on the computer system.
The mouse input device is only made for operating the GUI feature of the computer that performs different types of options provided in the form of graphical user interface.
The response is given by the operating system to provide the service to operate and complete steps on the operating system to get an output data as a solution on the computer system.
